Some facts on the history

Chistopol branch «Vostok» of «Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev – KAI» is the best creation of magnificent and famous KAI. The branch (before 1999 it used to be called faculty) «Vostok» of Kazan State Technical University was founded in Chistopol in 1987 to train engineering and technical specialists. The originator of its foundation was Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, laureate of state prizes, the rector of Moscow Scientific Research Institute of Radiophysics Bubnov G. G. At his invitation candidates and doctors of technical sciences came to Chistopol from Moscow, Leningrad, Tomsk and Kazan.

At present more than 100 lecturers work at Chistopol branch «Vostok», 65% of them are candidates of sciences, 11% are doctors of sciences. Among the lecturers there are a lot of specialists who combine the work at the enterprises with teaching at branch «Vostok». Proficiency of academic staff provides high level of the students’ training.

Training at the branch is held on the following majors: «Instrument-making», «Computer science and computing hardware», «Economics» and «Management». Also there is a pre-university training system.

Laboratory and academic facilities were founded and equipped with the active help of base enterprises PLC Chistopol Watch Plant «Vostok» and Radio Company «Vector». These are lecture classrooms and classrooms for learning and practices, computer classrooms and laboratories. Also good conditions for fruitful work are created in scientific and engineering library, its pool containing 85 thousand units of course books, scientific literature, periodicals. Moreover the library is constantly renewed. In electronic libraries there are soft copies of course books, monographs, workbooks and study guides on open access.

At branch «Vostok» scientific research work and academic work are held on the highest level. For the last five years the lecturers of our branch defended 2 doctor theses, 20 candidate theses. 82 lecturers completed training on skill upgrading at leading universities and also in educational centers abroad (Oxford, Ahmedabad, Dusseldorf, Austin, Stockholm, Malta, Cambridge, Barcelona, Hochshule Wismar University of Applied Sciences: Technology; Business and Design, Riga Technical University, Tallinn University of Technology).

For the last five years there were published 12 monographs, 73 course books, workbooks and study guides. Among them 23 have visa of Ministry of Education and Science, The board of Educational Methodological Association of Russian Federation, Research and Instructional Methodology Board. Three work books were acknowledged to be the best in all-Russia competitions on mathematics. More than 420 scientific and scientific and methodological papers were published, including in scientific periodicals, which are indexed in Web of Science and Scopus systems.

The academic staff of the branch take part in the work on the grants of The Russian Foundation for Fundamental Research, and such programs as «High School scientific potential development», «Academic and academic and teaching staff of Russia», «Fund for the Promotion of the Development of Small Businesses in the sphere of Science and Technology», B. Potanin’s Fund, youth scientific-innovation competitions. Patents, State Registration Certificates for computer programs, Diplomas of the Republic contest in competition for a prize named after N.I. Lobachevskyi were obtained. Our branch is the member of National Association of Information Technology (IT) innovations and development.

The branch participated in international project GUESSS, coordinated by St. Gallen University of Switzerland. It was the participant of the EFER fund program «New champions of Europe». Also the grants of European programs TEMPUS, ERASMUS+ and grant Alumni FLEX (the USA) were obtained.
The agreements are made and the work is being carried out with Hochshule Wismar (Germany), Riga Technical University (Latvia), Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia), St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (Russia), Karaganda State Technical University (Kazakhstan).

The work on joining the branch to research network of RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia) is being completed.

Besides the lecturers of our branch take part in international conferences in particular in Orlando, Seattle, Philadelphia (USA); Turku (Finland); Riga (Latvia); Singapore.

The students of the branch annually take winning places in all-Russia competitions of graduation theses, international and all-Russia Olympiads on instrument-making, applied mechanics, instrument production techniques, mathematics, probability calculus and mathematical statistics, economics and management, being held in Moscow, St Petersburg, Samara, Ufa, Yekaterinburg, Kazan and in the competition of software design held by Microsoft Corporation. Our students and lecturers obtained educational scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation, government of the Russian Federation, President of Tatarstan republic, grants of V. Potanin scholarship, University of California, St. Petersburg University.

We made contracts with a number of enterprises to train personnel and carry out R and D (research and development). The problems of course and diploma projects are determined by production tasks. More that 30% of graduation works have been introduced into production.

Students’ life isn’t limited to only studying. Their leisure activity is also rich and diverse. There are fine opportunities for sport, choreography and vocalism at the branch.

It has become a tradition for our students to take part in music competitions and festivals. Every year we conduct the classes of «Students core group school». Besides the Student Council of the branch deals with the solving of important students problems and defend their interests.

Since the foundation of the branch more than 2500 professionals have been trained. They work at enterprises not only in Chistopol, but in other cities of Tatarstan, Russia, also in Germany, Israel and Malta. Besides the projects of graduation thesis are determined according to particular design, technological and economic problems of the basic enterprises. The graduates of the branch realized their potential in scientific-research, production-economic and organizational-management scopes of activities. Among the graduates of the branch «Vostok» there are directors and leading specialists of large enterprises, leading personnel of business structures and also the small and medium size businesses.

KNRTU-KAI is certified in accordance with the requirements of international standard ISO 9001:2008 and is included in European Universities Association.
Great contribution of Chistopol Branch of KNRTU-KAI in Tatarstan Republic and Chistopol district development was duly appreciated by the first President M. Sh. Shaymiev, who called it «the elite educational establishment of Tatarstan».
